Fish Eagle Point from Outpost Arusha
|
| |
Fish Eagle Point and The Outpost share the same owners and a
firm belief in giving you a 'good, honest deal'. Over the years
we have noticed that, for various reasons, our visitors to Tanzania
find themselves at a loose end, 'stuck' in Arusha for a couple
of days, frustrated with little to do or see. And this is why we'd
like to offer you the options … either hang 'round in Arusha (or another city...), or
sign up now for your next Great African Safari adventure; see
wondrous sights, meet new people and visit unforgettable places.
We know what we'd rather do!
|
|
Fish Eagle Point really is your Coastal Hideaway!

Travelling to Fish Eagle Point - what to expect?
|
| |
Pick-up on the day of departure is at 7am - we encourage an
early start for a long and exciting day. Weather permitting,
sunrise over Mt Kilimanjaro provides for a passing treat.
Shortly after passing thro the town of Moshi, you will take the
road from Himo to Tanga which, for mile after mile, follows the
breathtakingly impressive Pare and Usumbara mountain ranges.
Actually, your route is taking you between the mountains and
beside the impressive Pangani River, the source of which is in
the snows of Kilimanjaro.
With the presence of the large spiky sisal plantations, you'll
notice that the land rises up to the Masai steppe on your
western horizon, landmarks including Landenai and Kobojo
mountains eerily rise out of the arid semi-desert like flats.
Evidence of the old German railway line, completed around
1911, will jolt you back to reality where it follows and crisscrosses
the road in the vicinity of the town of Mombo. Here, you enter
the fertile Pangani River baisin and will notice a marked change
in the passing countryside.
Pass thro Segera, and the turn-off to Dar es Salaam, then
we're all downhill' to Tanga from here! Midway between Segera and Tanga, around Muheza, look to the north (on the Southern Usambara range) where the heights indicate Amani Nature reserve which visitors often compare the magnificent scenery to that of the Alps (minus snow!). Home of the African violet, first discovered here by German enthusiasts who nurtured them and established botanical gardens as well as tea plantations. From here you'll notice a significant
contrast in the atmosphere, from the cool mountain air to the moist, hot maritime
climate which signals close proximity to the coast. From Tanga,
it’s a short but interesting ride northwards to Fish Eagle Point, either by vehicle or boat (weather permitting)
where a late lunch awaits you!
The road from Arusha to Tanga is good tarmac and covers a
distance of approximately 450km. The everchanging landscape
takes you thro the heart of the highlands, thro the taller baobabs
and flat topped acacia, giving way to the dwarf thorn bush and
vegetation characteristic of semi arid plains. From Tanga to
Fish Eagle Point you will encounter gravel road for the last 50km,
and rich coastal forest, or 14 Nautical miles (2 hours) of superb coral and mangrove islands with the chance of spotting whales or dolphins...

By the way, don’t forget that Coastal Aviation has a daily
scheduled flight from Tanga to Dar es Salaam, via Pemba and
Zanzibar, should this better fit your onward travel plans.
|
|
Remember that should it suit you better, Tanga has daily scheduled flights to Pemba, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam...
